Kamigamo Shrine

Pre-dating Kyoto itself, Kamigamo Shrine is dedicated to the god of thunder and
has one of the few real expanses of lawn in the city. Located in an historical area
of Shinto priests' houses, linked by a narrow stream, the shrine and its environs
make for a very pleasant and relaxing stroll. One of the houses, Nishimura House
is open to the public. Kamigamo, along with its sister shrine, Shimogamo Jinja,
also hosts the annual "Aoi Matsuri" procession on 15 May. Additionally, 5 May
sees an historic horse race. No fees to enter the shrine.
How to get there?

From Kyoto Station take Bus 4.  Approximately 45 minutes to Kamigamo jinja stop.
1 way will cost 220 Yen ($2.20) or use the Kyoto Bus Pass.
